So you’ve got your blog set up and now you want to get the word out about you new blog! Here are some very easy and practical steps to help you get the crowd coming to your blog.

1. Set up your ping list.

Make sure you have your ping list set up on you blog software so that every time you write a post it pings the major rss aggregators.

All bog platforms usually have a setting where you can place a ping list. For wordpress it’s under options > writing.

Here is the list I currently use.

2. Feedburner registration.

Feedburner.com allows you change your feed so that you can keep statistics on subscribers plus offers quite a number of other benefits.

3. Rss feed availability.

Make sure that your rss feed is available on every page of your blog so that people can subscribe through rss.

Usually an rss feeed is shown with the following image.

4. Allow for bookmarking to social media sites.

Many people now use and have profiles on the hundreds of social bookmarking sites that sprung up online over the last few years.

Make sure that your readers can bookmark all of your posts by adding a booking plugin or suing a free service.

The one I use is Addthis.com of which the “bookmark” button can be found at the bottom of this post.

5. Get your blog posts syndicated.

Some blog resources and directories will actually syndicate every post url and or snippets of each post. This is includes Technorati and Bloglines above however here is a few others.

Set up an account on each of these to start getting your blog posts out on the internet.

6. Place your blog on the major blog directories.

Here is a list of the major blog directories however if you want to do it the easy way simply use the “rss feeds directory” blog rss submission service.

7. Place your posts on the major social media news sites.

Once you have written your posts and they are online, add them to these news sites for wider promotion.

8. Promote your blog at blog communities.

Blog communities are a great way to promote you blog and socialize with other like minded people in your business field. Register your blog with the following two communities, get active, post comments and start getting traffic to your blog.

9. Join in blog conversations.

By far the easiest way of promoting your blog is by getting into conversation about you business topic with other people on blogs in your business field.

Simply do a search on the main blog and rss directories like Technorati.com or Bloglines.com for busy blogs on your topic and get involved.

Alternatively you can grab yourself some free software like and find conversations that way.

10. Get your blog reviewed.

There are stacks of services on the internet where by you can have your blog, website or services reviewed.

11. Send out a press release about your blog.

Send out a press release about your blog to reach your target market.

There are plenty of places to send out free press releases but if you are serious about getting the best distribution and add search engine rankings you will use Prweb.com

And if want a great press release written we do them better and cheaper than most online. For more information view our press release information on our current price list at Catdynamics.
